Inference is one of the most important skills needed to understand texts, yet we know that many children find it a particularly difficult skills. On this popular course, delegates explore a breadth of inference skills and how to teach them. The course uses examples from children’s literature and equips delegates to teach inference in creative and effective ways so that their children can open up the lines of text and find the hidden answers.
Rachel is a collector of children’s books and books about reading and will bring a selection of her books for delegates to browse during the session. She is always keen to extend her collection so urges delegates to bring their favourite children’s books with them for a show and tell session about which books have helped inspire the striving readers in their setting.

Session Outcomes:
• Consider what is meant by inference
• Explore how inference is tested in the KS1 & KS2 reading SATs
• Participate in practical reading comprehension activities
