The Teacher Assessment Framework for KS1 sets out the characteristics of children who read with greater depth. But how do you provide a learning environment that enables children to demonstrate these attributes? In this course, Rachel Clarke draws on her extensive knowledge of how to teach reading. Using techniques embedded in research, she provides practical approaches to improve children’s comprehension so that they meet the requirements of the Greater Depth descriptor at the end of Key Stage 1. Whilst aimed at supporting and extending the most able readers in your class, all the ideas in this session can be used across the ability range to help all children engage with texts deeply.
Session Outcomes:
• Establish what it means to read with greater depth
• Consider the range of skills displayed by greater depth readers
• Provide exemplification of how to teach greater depth reading skills
