Ensuring that all children can read, and enjoy what they read, is a hot topic. Support staff play a vital role in this aim and are often at the front line of supporting readers in their school. On this course we take a broad approach to reading that includes phonics, comprehension, fluency and reading for pleasure. The course also takes a specific look at how to hear children read whether that be individually or in small groups. As with all of our courses, we want attendees to go back to school armed with practical and easy to implement ideas that will transform their work with children.
Rachel is a collector of children’s books and will bring a selection of her collection for course attendees to read and enjoy.

Session Outcomes:
• Consider the range of skills required to be a reader
• Explore expectations in reading for children in KS1 and KS2
• Undertake practical activities to grow children as readers in school
