There is no descriptor of what it means to read with greater depth in the Key Stage 2 assessment materials, yet most teachers have a group of children in their class that need further stretch and challenge. On this course, Rachel Clarke draws on research to define the characteristics of these learners and the specific learning activities that these children need.
This course takes research and applies it into practice. This means that attendees will take part in activities that they can replicate back at school. Whilst aimed at supporting and extending the most able readers in your class, all the ideas in this session can be used across the ability range to help all children engage with texts deeply.
Session Outcomes:
• Establish what it means to read with greater depth
• Consider the range of skills displayed by greater depth readers
• Provide exemplification of how to teach greater depth reading skills
