Assessment and intervention strategies to support reading difficulties for neurodivergent learners / learners with SEND

This course focuses on developing a deeper understanding of the causes of reading difficulties in neuro divergent learners/those with SEND and provides evidence-based strategies for assessing and addressing those difficulties.
It aims to develop a deeper understanding of
• The common reading difficulties that students with SEND may face
• How to assess reading difficulties using assessment tools and strategies that ensure accessibility is built in from the start
• Using methods to assess learners who may be pre-verbal or have communication and language needs
• The importance of appropriate intervention programs and approaches
• Developing inclusive ordinarily available provision based on universal design for learning
• How to design and implement effective reading intervention programs and explore effectiveness of existing evidence-based approaches (including-Nessy, precision teaching, peer reading, accelerated reader, Toe by Toe etc.)
• Understand the role of technology in supporting reading instruction for all learners
The session aims to equip all staff with a knowledge of how to ensure accessibility, confidence, and engagement for all learners within the amazing world of literacy!
