Vocabulary features highly in the end of Key Stage assessments for both reading and writing. Teaching Vocabulary in KS1 and KS2 provides teachers with practical, engaging strategies for teaching vocabulary in the primary school. Starting with research, this course secures vocabulary teaching in ‘best practice’ so that it is part of a rich language-based approach to teaching and learning.
During this course, Rachel shares high quality techniques to ensure all participants leave feeling confident in their ability to teach vocabulary skills robustly, actively and strategically.
This course references Bringing Words to Life by Isabel Beck. Although not essential, reading this book before the course may increase enjoyment and application of the content.
Course Outcomes:
• Consider the place of vocabulary in the 2014 National Curriculum
• Familiarisation with research relating to vocabulary acquisition
• Explore ways to teach vocabulary systematically in the primary classroom.
