‘Switch on, sit back and learn’ this session will focus on one small area of learning and will enable delegates will take away strategies/information that they can put into action immediately.
The focus of this one hour, lecture style remote session is ASD and Autism- Effective Support for Autistic Learners.
Defining Areas of Need/Specific Neurodiverse Differences
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including variations in social communication, behaviour, and sensory processing.
- Recognising diverse presentations and needs in the classroom.
Understanding How to Identify and Support
- Identifying differences with social interaction, restricted interests, repetitive behaviours, cognition and learning and mental health.
- Using standardised screening tools and working with multidisciplinary teams for diagnosis.
-Gain a Toolbox of Practical Strategies and Approaches
- Implementing structured routines and clear expectations.
- Using visual supports and social stories.
- Creating sensory-friendly classroom environments.
- Implementing individualised education plans (IEPs).
