‘Switch on, sit back and learn’ this session will focus on one small area of learning and will enable delegates will take away strategies/information that they can put into action immediately.
The focus of this one hour, lecture style remote session is PSD and ODD- Supporting Pathological Demand Avoidance and Oppositional Defiant Disorder in the Classroom.
Defining Areas of Need/Specific Neurodiverse Differences
- Understanding PSD and ODD, characterised by extreme avoidance of demands and oppositional behaviour, respectively.
- Importance: Addressing the underlying anxiety and control issues.
Understanding How to Identify and Support
- Identifying signs such as resistance to routine requests and frequent temper outbursts.
- Collaborating with psychologists and behaviour specialists for assessments.
Gain a Toolbox of Practical Strategies and Approaches
- Offering choices and using flexible approaches to demands.
- Building positive relationships and using praise effectively.
- Implementing consistent and calm behaviour management strategies.
