Writing is one of the most complex skills children need to master in the primary years and in many classrooms, it is boys who struggle with this aspect of literacy the most. On this course, we consider how to motivate boys. But also look at the skills required to become a writer such as transcription skills including spelling and handwriting and composition skills such as creating whole texts for a range of purposes and audiences and how to ensure they are secured by boys.
Course Outcomes:
• Consider data and research about boys and their writing
• Explore methods and approaches to engage boys in writing
• Provide practical take-aways for teachers to put into practice.
